Investigador en artes visuales. CDMX,

Su interés se centra en el
espacio público como sitio en donde se manifiestan relaciones identitarias a
través de objetos, eventos y fenómenos socioculturales. A través de su práctica
fotográfica y de ejercicios como el caminar y la observación atenta, encuentra
expresiones públicas que reflejan los sistemas de creencia de la comunidad a
quien pertenecen.
El aspecto principal de su investigación es la fe como
detonadora de acciones de apropiación dentro de la urbe secular, donde a partir
de prácticas que abarcan: el objeto pictórico, el pequeño monumento y la
performatividad ritualística, mantienen vivos profundos sistemas de creencia,
desplegando expresiones afectivas y activando la memoria colectiva incluyendo
la celebración y el goce comunal.

His research focuses on public space as a site where identity relationships are manifested through objects, events, and sociocultural phenomena. Through his photographic practice and exercises such as walking and attentive observation, he finds public expressions that reflect the belief systems of the community to which they belong.

The main aspect of his research is faith as a catalyst for acts of appropriation within the secular city, where, through practices encompassing the pictorial object, the small monument, and ritualistic performativity, profound belief systems are kept alive, unfolding affective expressions and activating collective memory, including communal celebration and enjoyment.

(ESP)(Del griego antiguo 'ombligo') Este nombre es el que le he otorgado al proyecto de "perderme" en el centro de la Ciudad de México, autodenominada 'el ombligo de la luna'.

Llegué a la capital después de haber vivido 16 años en Xalapa, Veracruz, así que el reconocimiento y la apreciación del flujo de vida en el corazón del país son ejercicios que utilizo para integrarme en este ambiente nuevo y peculiar. Me interesa registrar los contrastes urbanos y multiculturales en la cotidianidad de la ciudad, sucesos que atrapan mi curiosidad

(From the ancient Greek for 'navel') This is the name I have given to the project of 'losing myself' in the center of Mexico City, self-proclaimed 'the navel of the moon'.

I arrived in the capital after having lived 16 years in Xalapa, Veracruz, so the recognition and appreciation of the flow of life in the heart of the country are exercises I use to integrate myself into this new and peculiar environment. I am interested in recording the urban and multicultural contrasts in the daily life of the city, events that capture my curiosity.

San Lázaro 2021

Dentro de la Biblia, a Lázaro se le menciona dos veces. Primero, en una parábola relatada por el mismo Jesús, donde cuenta la historia de una persona viviendo de migajas, cubierto de llagas y acompañada de perros que lamen sus heridas. Después, se presenta a Lázaro como hermano de Marta y María, recién fallecido, y a quien Jesús visita en su sepulcro para regresarle a la vida. Es justo en estas dos narrativas donde comienza el sincretismo del personaje, San Lázaro, ya que la institución cristiana solo reconoce al segundo, seguidor de Cristo como figura de veneración. Sin embargo, en la cultura popular se ha filtrado el de la parábola, patrono de los pobres y los leprosos. 

En México, el culto a San Lázaro es minúsculo, a pesar de que, hace más de 500 años, un recóndito lugar fue consagrado en su nombre. Originalmente, fue la atarazana donde Hernán Cortés conservó los bergantines con los cuales asedió Tenochtitlan. Más tarde, se convirtió en capilla, como segmento de un complejo hospitalario y como una fracción del primer leprosario de América continental. Actualmente, sumergida en un limbo de propiedad y presupuestos federales, ve pasar el tiempo, sin atención ni feligreses.
 
Como parte de la maestría en investigación en Artes Visuales de la UNAM, propongo el resucitar de un sitio olvidado, integrando nuevos procesos ritualísticos y performáticos para, en medio de jardines y utopías arquitectónicas, devolverle la vida, una vez más, a San Lázaro.

First, in a parable told by Jesus himself, where he tells the story of a person living on crumbs, covered in sores and accompanied by dogs that lick his wounds. Later, Lazarus is introduced as the brother of Martha and Mary, recently deceased, and whom Jesus visits in his tomb to bring him back to life. It is precisely in these two narratives where the syncretism of the character, Saint Lazarus, begins, since the Christian institution only recognizes the latter, a follower of Christ, as a figure of veneration. However, the one from the parable, patron of the poor and lepers, has filtered into popular culture.

In Mexico, the cult of Saint Lazarus is minuscule, despite the fact that, more than 500 years ago, a remote place was consecrated in his name. Originally, it was the shipyard where Hernán Cortés kept the brigs with which he besieged Tenochtitlan. Later, it became a chapel, as a segment of a hospital complex and as a fraction of the first leper colony in continental America. Currently, immersed in a limbo of federal property and budgets, she watches time pass by, without attention or parishioners.

As part of the master's degree in research in Visual Arts at the UNAM, I propose the resurrection of a forgotten site, integrating new ritualistic and performative processes to, in the midst of gardens and architectural utopias, bring life back to San Lázaro once again.
